HUSKIE QUICK HITS
• NIU returns eight letterwinners and three starters from a season ago, while welcoming six newcomers to the roster in 2016-17.
• Senior Marin Maric was named to the Preseason All-MAC West Team, becoming the first Huskie to earn the preseason honor since 2012.
• NIU was picked to finish third in the MAC West in the league's preseason poll, selected behind division favorite Eastern Michigan and defending division champion Ball State, and ahead of 4) Toledo, 5) Western Michigan and 6) Central Michigan.
• Senior Aaric Armstead begins his fourth season at NIU just four steals shy of the top-10 in NIU career history.
• Armstead also begins his senior season just 87 points shy of 1,000 in his career. There have been 29 Huskies that have reached the 1,000 career points plateau.
• NIU brings back 66.9 percent of its minutes, 72.6 percent of its scoring, 81.1 percent of its rebounding, 47.4 percent of its assists, 85.6 percent of its blocked shots and 62.8 percent of its steals from the 2015-16 season.
• NIU won 21 games in 2015-16, tied for the second-most in a single-season in school history.
• NIU went 18-1 at home last season, setting a new school record with a 15-game home winning streak. The Huskies are 33-6 at home since Feb. 12, 2014.

ABOUT INDIANA STATE
• The Sycamores recorded a 15-17 overall record last season, including an 8-10 mark in Missouri Valley Conference play, finishing tied for sixth in the conference.
• Indiana State was picked to finish sixth in the Missouri Valley again this season in the league's preseason poll of head coaches, SIDs and media.
• Junior Brenton Scott was named to the Preseason All-MVC First Team; Scott averaged 14.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game last season, shooting 38.4 percent from three and 77.1 percent from the free-throw line.
• Greg Lansing is entering his seventh season as head coach at Indiana State. Prior to being named head coach of the Sycamores, Lansing was the associate head coach at Indiana State from 2006-10.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES
• NIU leads the all-time series against Indiana State, 12-6, but the Huskies and Sycamores have not met since 2008. Prior to a home-and-home series in 2007 and '08, NIU and Indiana State had not met since 1973.
• The Huskies won that meeting on Nov. 18, 2008, 86-79, in DeKalb. Mike DiNunno and Darion "Jake" Anderson each scored 27 points to lead the Huskies. Rashad Reed scored 21 points to lead Indiana State.
• NIU shot 55 percent (11-of-20) from behind the three-point line in the seven-point victory.
• The Huskies are 9-0 all-time at home against Indiana State

FOR OPENERS
• Last season, NIU defeated Cal State Northridge, 83-71, at home in the season opener (Nov. 13, 2015). Five Huskies scored in double figures in last year's opener; Marshawn Wilson had a team-high 16 points, Jaylen Key and Austin Pauga had 15 points, Laytwan Porter added 11 points and Travon Baker chipped in 10 points.
• Since returning to the Mid-American Conference for the 1997-98 season, NIU is 8-11 in season opening contests.
• NIU has 116 years of recorded basketball, including 111 seasons that have included intercollegiate competition. All-time in season openers against intercollegiate foes, the Huskies are 62-49.

WHAT'S BACK FOR THE HUSKIES

• NIU returns three double-figure scorers from a season ago in Marin Maric (11.9 ppg), Marshawn Wilson (11.0 ppg) and Aaric Armstead (10.9 ppg). This marks the first time NIU has had three double-figure scorers returning since the 1999-2000 season.
• All three of NIU's all-conference honorees from a season ago return in 2016-17. Marin Maric was named to the All-MAC Third Team last season, Aaric Armstead was named to the MAC's All-Defensive Team and Marshawn Wilson was named to the All-Freshman Team.
