Huskies Set to Host NIU Thanksgiving Classic

Huskie Quick Hits
• This weekend marks the third time in the last four seasons that NIU has hosted a multi-team event (MTE) at the NIU Convocation Center.
• In 2013-14, James Madison, Milwaukee and San Jose State came to DeKalb for the NIU Invitational. Milwaukee finished the weekend with a perfect 3-0 record, James Madison went 2-1, NIU finished 1-2 and San Jose State had a 0-3 mark.
• Last season, NIU welcomed Cal State Northridge, South Dakota and Wright State to DeKalb for the NIU Showcase. The Huskies closed the weekend with a perfect 3-0 record while each of the other three teams finished 1-2.
• Over the last three games, Laytwan Porter is shooting 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the floor, including 76.9 percent (10-of-13) from three.
• Jaylen Key has led NIU in rebounding in all four games this season. Key is averaging 7.5 rebounds per game and is tied for second on the team at 12.5 points per contest.

About Cal Poly
• The Mustangs come to DeKalb with a 2-2 overall record after dropping road contests at Pepperdine and Arizona State while winning home games against Cal State Dominguez Hills and Bethesda University.
• Kyle Toth leads four Mustangs in double figures with 14.8 points per game, Josh Martin (13.5 ppg), Luke Meikle (11.0 ppg) and Jaylen Shead (10.3 ppg) are also scoring in double figures for Cal Poly. Martin is also leading the Mustangs with 10.0 rebounds per contest.
• Last season, Cal Poly finished with a 10-20 overall record, 4-12 in Big West Conference play. This season, Cal Poly was picked to finish ninth in the Preseason Big West media poll.

All-time Series with the Mustangs
• NIU holds a 2-1 edge in the all-time series with Cal Poly, both of the Huskie victories came in DeKalb while the Mustang win came in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
• The most recent meeting between the two schools took place in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at the Northern Iowa BTI Tip-Off Tourney (Nov. 11, 2007). Cal Poly defeated NIU, 88-78, in that contest.
• Trae Clark led Cal Poly with 22 points while Matt Hanson had a double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds) for the Mustangs in the 2007 contest. Four Huskie scored in double figures, led by 21 points from Ryan Paradise. The matchup was the third game of a three-day round-robin tournament at Northern Iowa.

About Elon
• The Phoenix bring a 2-1 record to the NIU Thanksgiving Classic and are coming off a 74-61 road win at South Florida last Thursday (Nov. 17).
• Five players are scoring in double figures for Elon, led by 17.0 points per game from Steven Santa Ana. Brian Dawkins (11.3 ppg), Karolis Kundrotas (11.3), Tyler Seibring (11.0 ppg) and Dainan Swoope (10.0) are also scoring in double figures for the Phoenix who come into the weekend shooting 51.6 percent from the field as a team.
• Elon finished last season with a 16-16 overall record, 7-11 in Colonial Athletic Association play; the Phoenix were picked to finish eighth in the preseason CAA poll.

All-time Series with the Phoenix
• Friday's contest will be the first meeting between NIU and Elon.

About UIC
• The Flames come into the weekend with a 2-1 record, having recorded wins over Texas-San Antonio and Trinity Christian after a season-opening setback at San Francisco.
• Three Flames are scoring in double figures, led by 21.3 points per game from Dikembe Dixson; Tai Odiase is averaging 12.0 points per contest and Marcus Ottey is averaging 11.3 points per game.
• Last season, UIC posted a 5-25 overall record, 3-15 in Horizon League play; the Flames were picked to finish fourth in the Horizon League this season, Dixson was named to the Horizon League Preseason All-League First Team while Odiase was named to the Second Team.

All-time Series with the Flames
• Saturday's matchup will be the 40th all-time between NIU and UIC, with the Flames currently leading the all-time series, 23-16.
• NIU has a 9-8 edge all-time in DeKalb, but UIC has won three of its last four trips to DeKalb.
• After a two-year hiatus, the Huskies and Flames met last season in Chicago, with NIU earning a 70-65 road victory (Dec. 29, 2015). Travon Baker scored a team-high 20 points to pace the Huskies, Marin Maric added a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Marshawn Wilson chipped in 11 points and Chuks Iroegbu added 10 points. Dikembe Dixson led UIC with 28 points in the contest.
