NIU Scholar Athletes of the Week: Feb. 8-14

Feb. 15, 2016 DeKALB, Ill. - Each week, NIU honors two student-athletes that exemplify the concept of the "student-athlete" supremely well. These students excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. This week, the honorees are Carlos Manzanas of men's tennis and Megan Greenfield of gymnastics.

NIU student-athletes won 10 times during the 2014-15 season, tied for the most in the conference, and have already won four times this year as well.

Week's Achievements:
With three singles wins and two doubles victories, Manzanas lifted NIU to a perfect 3-0 weekend against Illinois State, Nebraska-Omaha and Cleveland State as the Huskies extended their winning streak to five matches. The NIU junior, playing at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, went perfect in his singles matches against the opponents’ best players without dropping a set in the three contests and he also added two key doubles wins for the Huskies versus Illinois State and Cleveland State with his playing partner Austin Russell.
 Week's Achievements:
 Greenfield continued to show her consistency and quality in helping NIU gymnastics to its best weekend of the season. Featuring in the vault, beam and floor events at the IGI Chicago Style Meet and in NIU’s victory against Western Michigan, Greenfield posted six scoring marks for the Huskies – all at 9.750 or higher, including three 9.800’s and higher against the Broncos. The NIU junior scored 9.850 in both of her beam attempts and 9.800 in both of her vault efforts to lead the Huskies.
