DeKALB, Ill. – Mike Shayotovich, a native of Merrillville, Ind. with experience in sales, media and licensing, has been named general manager of Huskie Sports Properties, NIU Athletics and Learfield, the Huskies’ multimedia rights partner, announced Friday.
Huskie Sports Properties is the multimedia arm of NIU Athletics. Now under the direction of Shayotovich, the office manages the Huskies’ signage, sponsorships, corporate hospitality, game programs and radio and television broadcasts.
Shayotovich comes to NIU after a year and a half as general manager of Sycamores Sports Properties, where he handled similar duties for Learfield’s Indiana State partnership. Prior to his time at Indiana State, Shayotovich worked as a consultant for USA Today Sports Media Group, spent five years as director of commercial sports licensing at the Associated Press and worked at commercial sports photography group Getty Images for nearly 10 years.
Shayotovich was a three-sport athlete in football, basketball and baseball at Merrillville High School before going on to Butler University for two years, where he was a member of the football team. He completed his degree at Purdue, earning a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts/education in 1991.
