NIU Scholar Athletes of the Week: March 7-13

March 14, 2016 DeKALB, Ill. - Each week, NIU honors two student-athletes that exemplify the concept of the "student-athlete" supremely well. These students excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. This week, the honorees are Brian Sisler of baseball and Connie Ellett of women's golf.

NIU student-athletes won 10 times during the 2014-15 season, tied for the most in the conference, and have already won six times this year as well.

Week's Achievements:
Brian Sisler became the first NIU baseball player since 2000 to hit for the cycle on Sunday. The Huskie senior shortstop went 4-for-6 at the plate against Belmont, tripling in the first, singling in the third, homering in the fourth and completing the effort with a double in the seventh inning as he also finished with five runs batted in and two runs scored. DeKalb native Sisler finished the three-game series at Belmont with a batting average of .600 (9-for-15), seven RBIs and four runs scored.

 Week's Achievements:
Connie Ellett broke two NIU women’s golf program records over the weekend in posting a top-five finish at the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird. The senior posted a school record round of 68 (4-under) on Saturday to vault herself up 17 spots in the leaderboard at the event, which she finished tied for fourth with a final score of 1-over par. Ellet’s two-round score of 145 also broke the NIU women’s golf record for a two-day event and lifted the Huskies into a third place finish as a team in the 13-team tournament.
