Huskies Bested by MAC-Leading Akron

April 1, 2016

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women’s tennis team dropped a Mid-American Conference dual to league-leading Akron on Friday afternoon at the Boylan Tennis Center.

The Huskies (6-9, 1-2 MAC) were defeated by the Zips (13-6, 3-0 MAC) by a scoreline of 7-0 after the match was moved indoors to Rockford due to rain in DeKalb on Friday.

Adey Osabuohien (Hazel Crest, Ill./Stony Brook) came closest to winning a match in the dual for the Huskies in her No. 1 singles contest after she won the first set against Ariadna Blinova, but the Zip top player was able to rally and hand Osabuohien just her third singles loss of the season.

The other five singles matches were decided in straight sets as NIU women’s tennis head coach Tanya Gombera was defeated by her alma mater, and Akron was also able to earn the doubles point.

The NIU women’s tennis team returns to action next Friday with an away match at Toledo.
