Huskies Bested by Buffalo, 5-2

April 15, 2016

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Northern Illinois University women’s tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision against Buffalo on Friday afternoon in Mid-American Conference action when the two teams met in Toledo.

The Huskies (6-11, 1-4 MAC) played close with the Bulls (12-6, 4-2 MAC) for the second consecutive season but were unable to tally the four team points needed to secure victory.

Adey Osabuohien (Hazel Crest, Ill./Stony Brook) continued her strong season at No. 1 singles for the Huskies, knocking off Buffalo top player Tanja Stojanovska in a three-set thriller, 7-5, 5-7, 10-4. Osabuohien improved to 14-3 (4-1 MAC) this season individually with the victory.

Meghan Montgomerie (Irvin, Scotland/Beaconhurst) was the other Huskie to defeat her bullish opponent as the freshman No. 6 singles player defeated Christine Haraldson, 6-3, 6-3 in a hard-fought contest.

Those two singles wins would prove only to be consolation points for NIU, who were unable to gain traction in any other the other four singles matches or the doubles duels. The Huskies have a quick turnaround for their next MAC match.

NIU faces surging Western Michigan tomorrow in Kalamazoo at 1 p.m. CT.
