Huskies Head To Ohio To Face MAC East Opponents

NIU set to take on Kent State on Friday and Ohio on Sunday

DEKALB – The NIU women's soccer team (3-4-2, 2-0 MAC) will head east to take on Kent State (6-1, 2-0 MAC) on Friday and Ohio (2-6-1, 0-2 MAC) on Sunday.

The Huskies will hit the road for three games after going undefeated during their three-game homestand, playing to a 0-0 draw against Illinois State before starting their conference season with wins over Central Michigan, 4-0, and Eastern Michigan, 2-1.

In the two conference home wins, forward Taylor Sarver (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) netted two goals and added an assist on her way to becoming the MAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Goalkeeper Amy Annala (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) recorded three saves in each of the games against CMU and EMU, only allowing a ball to barely cross the goal line for a goal in the 90th minute of the game against Eastern Michigan.

Kent State is currently the top team in the MAC East with wins over Toledo and Bowling Green in conference play with their only loss on the season came against No. 21 Ohio State.

Jenna Hellstrom leads the Golden Flashes in points (17), goals (7) and assists (3) in her seven games played this season. Goalkeeper Ashleah McDonald has played all of the minutes in goal for Kent State this season with 29 saves and seven goals allowed for a 0.97 goals against average and a .806 save percentage.

Ohio's first two MAC opponents of the season were also Bowling Green and Toledo as the Bobcats dropped both of those games last week.

Bryce Hueber and Alexis Milesky are the top scorers for the Bobcats, as each player has two goals on the season with Hueber tallying one more assist than Milesky this season. Ohio has used two goalies this season as Erin Beurket and Vanessa Cordoba have split time. Beurket has started five games, has allowed nine goals and made 38 saves with Cordoba starting three games, allowing five goals and making 17 saves.

After this weekend, NIU will play one more road match against Miami (Ohio) next Thursday before returning home to start another three-match homestand as they host Ball State Sunday, Oct. 9.
