Huskies Head to Bowling Green for Key Conference Matchup

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's soccer team begins its final two-game road stretch of the regular season on Saturday night, Oct. 28, as the Huskies travel to Bowling Green. Game time against the Falcons is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.

NIU (3-9-1, 0-2-1 MAC) travels to the State of Ohio following a 1-0 overtime loss last Saturday (Oct. 21) at home against SIU Edwardsville. The Cougars scored in the 98th minute to spoil the shutout of Huskie sophomore goalkeeper Konrad Dziedzic (Schiller Park, Ill./East Leyden) who made six saves in the contest.

The overtime goal by SIUE also snapped a streak of 12 consecutive overtime contests without a loss for NIU. This season, NIU had been 2-1 in overtime games prior to last week, with wins over DePaul (Aug. 25) and Stetson (Sept. 8) as well as a draw at West Virginia (Oct. 7). NIU's last overtime loss prior to the SIUE game came on Oct. 12, 2013, at Bowling Green.

NIU's last trip to Bowling Green also went to overtime as Giovanni Garcia (Chicago, Ill./Elk Grove) scored with a dipping drive from 25 yards out in the 97th minute to lift the Huskies to a 1-0 victory over the Falcons on Oct. 3, 2015.

Bowling Green enters Saturday's matchup with a 6-8-1 overall record, including a 0-2-1 mark in conference play. The Falcons played a midweek match against Fort Wayne on Tuesday, falling to the Mastodons, 2-1. Chris Brennan leads Bowling Green in scoring with four goals and four assists; Anthony Mwembia has played all 15 matches in goal for the Falcons, he has a 1.04 goals against average and a .781 save percentage.

With identical 0-2-1 conference records, the Huskies and Falcons are just behind West Virginia at 0-1-2 for the fourth, and final, spot in the conference tournament. West Virginia travels to Akron tonight (Oct. 27) for their fourth conference matchup.

Following Saturday's match, the Huskies will finish the regular season next Saturday, Nov. 4, when they travel to Akron.
