NIU Wraps Home Stretch Saturday with Miami

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University volleyball team will conclude its current four-match homestand on Saturday night, Oct. 28, when the Huskies host Miami (Ohio). First serve against the RedHawks is slated for 7 p.m., at Victor E. Court and the match will be available on ESPN3. 

Saturday night is Huskie Halloween as we encourage all fans to wear their best Halloween costume to the match. Fans wearing a costume will receive free candy. 

NIU comes into the second match of the week with a 6-5 record in MAC play (7-19 overall) following a four-set victory over Western Michigan on Wednesday night (Oct. 25). 

Freshman Kaylee Martin (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) recorded 26 kills and 13 digs against Western Michigan for her third consecutive double-double and seventh overall this season. In those three matches, Martin has averaged 4.73 kills, 5.09 points and 4.09 digs per set. Six of Martin's double-doubles have come in her 10 conference matches, she currently leads the MAC in conference play in both kills per set (4.55) and points per set (5.01).

Freshman Jori Radtke (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) added 12 kills against the Broncos while junior Meg Wolowicz (Manitowoc, Wis./Manitowoc Lincoln) had 11 kills, along with five blocks. 

Over her last eight matches, Radtke is averaging 2.60 kills and 2.75 points per set while Wolowicz has hit over .300 in seven of her last nine matches, reaching double figures in kills in eight of those contests. 

Miami comes to DeKalb with a 16-8 overall record, including an 8-3 mark in conference play. The RedHawks fell to Bowling Green, 3-1, on Thursday night (Oct. 26) in a matchup of the top-two teams in the MAC East Division. As a team, Miami ranks second in the league in assists (12.23 per set) and kills (13.56 per set) while also ranking third in hitting percentage (.212) and digs (18.16 per set). Meredith Stutz of the RedHawks is currently fourth in the MAC in blocks averaging 1.08 per set. 

Following Saturday's match, the Huskies will head back on the road for the final time during the regular season next weekend when they travel to Central Michigan on Friday, Nov. 3, and Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 4.
