Huskies Invest: A Week of Giving Surpasses $100,000 Goal

169 Donors Contribute to NIU Athletics Campaign to Sustain Efforts

November 10

DeKALB, Ill. – Thanks to the generous donations and commitment to support Northern Illinois University student-athletes, NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean T. Frazier on Friday announced the successful conclusion to Huskies Invest: A Week of Giving effort resulting in $115,246 raised by 169 donors.

The total exceeded by more than 15 percent the $100,000 goal set by Frazier and his staff as a way to bring attention to NIU's Campaign to Sustain, the multi-faceted fundraising initiative first announced last April.

"Thanks to all of our fans, alumni, loyal supporters and members of the Huskie Family, including our coaches and staff, who participated in Huskies Invest: A Week of Giving!  We set a goal to raise $100,000 to support NIU student-athletes, and it is fantastic to see Huskie Nation step up and send us well past that goal.  Whether you gave $10 or $25,000, we appreciate each and every one of you!

"The success of this Week of Giving has jump-started our Campaign to Sustain, and gives us great momentum heading into 2018.  We know there is more work ahead as we continue to build on this great tradition of NIU Athletics and provide the best possible experience for student-athletes now and in the future."

During the Week of Giving, donors, coaches and student-athletes were featured in a series of videos posted on social media via YouTube, and fans were able to check the website as the amount donated and number of donors kept climbing toward – and ultimately past – the goal.

Donations supported a variety of efforts outlined in the Campaign to Sustain, including Cost of Attendance, sport-specific gifts and gifts toward two specific projects - a nutrition center for use by all NIU student-athletes and a new video and team meeting area in the Convocation Center.

While the Week of Giving is over, the need for support remains, Frazier said.

"We have an unbelievable tradition here with NIU Athletics," Frazier said.  "This Campaign is absolutely critical to our ability to sustain and continue to build that tradition with the many challenges we face both on the state and national levels.  I'm excited about this start; now it's time to take it to the next level."
