DEKALB, Ill. – Less than 48 hours after wrapping up a season-opening victory over Green Bay, the Northern Illinois University men's basketball team will return to the court at the NIU Convocation Center as the Huskies host St. Francis (Ill.). Game time against the Fighting Saints is slated for 7 p.m.
Thursday's contest is the make-up game from last Friday's postponement, tickets from Friday's originally scheduled date will be honored for admission this Thursday for the rescheduled contest. Fans attending Thursday's contest can purchase specialty beers for just $5 and slices of cheese pizza for $3.
NIU goes into Thursday's game with a 1-0 record after downing Green Bay, 85-65, on Tuesday night. Junior
Levi Bradley (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) poured in a career-best 28 points to lead the way in the victory. Bradley's 28 points are the most by a Huskie since Xavier Silas netted 34 on Feb. 12, 2011 against Kent State.
Sophomore
Eugene German (Gary, Ind./21st Century Charter) added 21 points against the Phoenix while junior
Lacey James (Grand Rapids, Mich./Wayland Union/Rider), playing his first game as a Huskie, recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
The victory extended NIU's winning streak in season openers to four and helped the Huskies improve to 43-14 at home since Feb. 12, 2014.
St. Francis opened its regular season with a pair of home games, falling to Carroll College before bettering Northwestern Ohio. Terrion Howard is averaging a team-high 16.5 points per game while Jorden Thornton is adding 14.5 points per contest for the Fighting Saints. Last season, St. Francis posted an 18-13 overall record.
The Fighting Saints are led by fifth-year head coach Ryan Marks, who spent six seasons as an assistant coach at NIU from 1995-2001. In between his time at NIU and joining St. Francis, Marks was the head coach at Southern Vermont, St. Edward's (Texas) and Texas-Pan American. NIU Director of Player Development/Operations
Chad Pecka worked as a graduate assistant for Marks at Texas-Pan American for two seasons from 2009-11.
St. Francis has not played since last Friday's originally scheduled game date.
Following Thursday's contest, the Huskies will travel south for the Gulf Coast Showcase, Nov. 20-22, in Estero, Fla. NIU will begin the tournament against the University of Pennsylvania on Monday, Nov. 20, at 4 p.m. CT.
