ESTERO, Fla. – The Northern Illinois University men's basketball team will face a quick turnaround as the Huskies face Florida Atlantic on Tuesday afternoon in the Gulf Coast Showcase. Game time against the Owls is slated for 12:30 p.m. CT at Germain Arena. 

NIU opened the tournament with a 93-80 setback against Penn on Monday. The Quakers raced out to a 25-6 lead in the opening minutes of the contest and the deficit proved too much for the Huskies to overcome. Sophomore Eugene German (Gary, Ind./21st Century Charter) scored a team-high 17 points and also had a career-high five assists. 

Florida Atlantic enters Tuesday's contest with a 1-2 overall record. The Owls fell to South Florida, 60-59, in their season opener (Nov. 10) before rebounding with a 91-59 win over Edwards Waters (Nov. 16). Yesterday, FAU fell to Towson, 76-52, in their Gulf Coast Showcase opener. Four players are scoring in double figures for FAU, led by 11.7 points per game from Ronald Delph. Gerdarius Troutman (10.7 ppg), Anthony Adger (10.0 ppg) and Payton Hulsey (10.0 ppg) are also scoring in double figures.

On Wednesday, NIU will meet either Manhattan or Missouri State on the final day of the Gulf Coast Showcase. With a win on Tuesday, the Huskies would tip at 12:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, while a loss would see the Huskies play at 10 a.m. CT on Wednesday.
