Men's Basketball

Short Turnaround Sees Huskies at Iowa State Monday

DEKALB, Ill. -- A little more than 48 hours after earning a victory over Chicago State in its first road game of the season, the Northern Illinois University men's basketball team will be back on the road as the Huskies travel to Ames, Iowa, to meet Iowa State. Game time against the Cyclones is set for 8 p.m., on Monday night, Dec. 4, and the contest will be televised on ESPNU.

The Huskies head to Ames on the heels of an impressive performance at Chicago State in which they led wire-to-wire. Sophomore Eugene German (Gary, Ind./21st Century Charter) scored a season-high 26 points with a career-best six assists. Junior Levi Bradley (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) added 14 points, freshman Rod Henry-Hayes (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) had a career-high 13 and sophomore Justin Thomas (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) chipped in 11 points.

NIU (5-3) recorded 22 assists on its 34 made field goals against the Cougars while also shooting 50 percent from behind the three-point line, making a season-high 11 triples.

The Huskies continued their early season trend of taking care of the ball against Chicago State, committing just nine turnovers. NIU is averaging just 11.4 turnovers per contest, best in the Mid-American Conference and 32nd nationally. NIU is also forcing 15.9 turnovers per game and its +4.5 turnover margin also tops the MAC and ranks 31st in the country.

The Cyclones enter Monday's matchup with a 4-2 overall record. Iowa State lost its first two games of the season but has won four-straight, including the title at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off at Myrtle Beach. Three players are scoring in double figures for the Cyclones, led by 15.8 points per game from Donovan Jackson. Nick Weiler-Babb adds 14.0 points and a team-high 7.5 rebounds while Lindell Wigginton chips in 13.0 points per game.

NIU and Iowa State will be meeting for the seventh time, the home team has won each of the six previous contests. NIU's last win against a current member of the Big 12 came on Dec. 20, 2005, a 75-70 overtime victory against Kansas State in DeKalb.

Following Monday's trip to Ames, the Huskies will return home as they host Central Connecticut State on Saturday, Dec. 9, at noon.
