DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team looks to return to its winning ways when it travels to Milwaukee to face Marquette Sunday.
Â
The Huskies (6-3) enters Sunday's match with the Golden Eagles looking to bounce back from a hard-fought 4-3 setback to SIUE.
Â
"I want to see us stay competitive," said NIU head coach
Tanya Mahefu. "Marquette is going to be like a Big Ten team, but we have to be competitive. We have the talent level to do well and compete with them, but we have to be ready to battle it out."
Â
One of the strengths of NIU's team this season has been its doubles play. The Huskies have won the last five doubles points and six overall. NIU's No. 1 doubles team of Adey Osabouhien and
Raven Neely are 7-1 on the season, having lost their first match of the season at SIUE.
Â
"I like how we've competed in doubles," she said. "Our doubles play is definitely improved compared to past years. I'm hoping to see it continue to improve as the season goes."
Â
Marquette is 4-3 on the season and will play host to Minnesota Saturday. Including this weekend's match Huskies and Golden Eagles have faced three common opponents this season. Both teams scored 7-0 victories over Green Bay and suffered losses to Iowa.
Â
Sunday's match with the Golden Eagles will begin at 12 p.m. and there will be live scoring available for the contest.
