AURORA, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team swept its first two home matches of the season, defeating Chicago State and Green Bay at the Vaughn Athletics Center Friday afternoon.
 
The Huskies (3-2) scored a 5-2 victory over Chicago State in NIU's home opener, and then posted a 7-0 shutout of Green Bay in the afternoon.
 
"I'm proud of the way we competed today," said NIU head coach Tanya Mahefu. "We were very focused and determined. We are looking forward to playing Bradley and Western Illinois at home on Sunday."
 
Raven Neely (Grosse Point, Mich./Grosse Point South) and Brodie Walker (Bristol, England/Bristol Grammar School) went undefeated on the day in both singles and doubles action.
 
Neely and Adey Osabuohien (Hazel Crest, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) remained perfect at No. 1 doubles, improving to 4-0 on the year with a victory over Chicago State. Walker teamed up with Meghan Montgomerie (Irvine, Scotland/Beaconhurst) at No. 3 doubles and bested the Green Bay doubles team of Maria Neff and Samm Pedersen, 6-1.
 
Evelyn Youel (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) scored a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Neff at No. 6 singles, while Pauline Chawafambira (Dangamvura, Mutare, Zimbabwe) rallied from a tough 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 setback to Chicago State's Mariya Kostiuk by scoring a 6-1, 6-2 win against Green Bay's Lorea Gamboa. Like Chawafambira, Abigail Dekkinga (Allegan, Mich./Allegan Senior) was able to avenge her in the morning match by defeating Chiora Berg, 7-5, 6-3.
 
The NIU women's tennis team returns to the court Sunday when the Huskies welcome Bradley and Western Illinois to the Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford. The Bradley match begins at 10 a.m., while the Western Illinois contest commences at 1 p.m.
