DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University Women's Tennis team opens Mid-American Conference play when the Huskies travel to Oxford, Ohio to face Miami Friday.
In addition to Friday's contest with the RedHawks at 12 p.m. Central Time, NIU (6-8) will play host to Ball State at the Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. The Huskies enter this weekend's matches after playing well in their two matches in Florida last week and getting some playing time outside.
"I think it boosted everybody's confidence," said NIU head coach Tonya Mahefu of the team's Florida trip. "We got the chance to play outside. This weekend's matches against Miami will be outside so that will be beneficial for us. It should be an exciting match with Miami and I hope we can come away with the W."
NIU won the doubles point in matches against UCONN and Florida Atlantic and picked up a pair of singles victories in a 4-3 setback to FAU. The doubles' point win over UCONN was the first for NIU since Feb. 18 at SIUE.
"Our doubles play definitely improved during the trip," she said. "We won the doubles point in both matches and I think we're understanding better how to play doubles as a team."
