DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University Women's Tennis team won its second-straight match as the Huskies defeated Toledo at the West Tennis Courts Sunday afternoon.
The Huskies' (8-10, 2-2) won the doubles point for the second straight match and once again it was NIU's. 1 and No. 3 doubles teams with the win.
Adey Osabuohien (Hazel Crest, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) and
Raven Neely (Grosse Point, Mich./Grosse Point South) won their third straight match at No. 1 doubles, while
Pauline Chawafambira (Dangamvura, Mutare, Zimbabwe) and
Evelyn Youel (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) scored their second straight victory at No. 3 doubles.
NIU went 3-3 in singles play with wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 4 singles. Neely and Chawafamira posted wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, while Osabouhien's 75, 7-6 (3) win over Mimi Kendall-Woseley proved to be the match clincher.
"I'm proud of the team this weekend," said NIU head coach Tanya Mehefu. "Everyone really stepped up and played an important role. However, the work is not done. We need to continue to work hard as we play against a tough Akron team."
The NIU women's tennis team returns to courts Friday when the Huskies travel to Akron. The match begins at 12 p.m. CT
