DEKALB, Ill. – Northern Illinois University Women's Tennis team travels to Bowling Green, Ohio to face Bowling Green in the regular season finale Friday.
Â
NIU (9-12, 3-4) enter Friday's (12 p.m. CT) match looking to secure a spot in next weekend's 2017 Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Championships. For the Huskies it's simple, win and they're in.
Â
"We're really excited," said NIU head coach
Tanya Mahefu. "Bowling Green is a really good team. Again, the doubles point is going to be big for us. That's what we've been working on all week. The girls come into the match with a lot of confidence, but we need to be ready to go against BG."
Â
The Huskies come into Friday's match on a high after defeating Western Michigan 4-3 for the first time in school history.Â
Â
"I think it's a great confidence boost," Mahefu said of last week's win over Western Michigan. "We've never beaten Western in our program's history. It's a big boost for us, but that BG team is tough."
Â
The Falcons (5-13, 1-5) have lost nine of their last 10 matches, however, with a win over the Huskies on Friday and Western Michigan on Sunday, Bowling Green could be in the mix for a spot in the MAC Women's Tennis Championships. Depending on results from Friday and Sunday, there could be five 3-5 teams in the hunt for the final three seeds.
