BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Northern Illinois University Women's Tennis team posted a 5-2 win over Bowling Green in the regular season finale at the Keefe Courts Friday afternoon.

The victory over the Falcons clinched NIU's appearance in the 2017 Mid-American Conference Championship, its first since 2012 and the first time since the league went to a six-team format.

"I'm very proud of the way the team competed today," said NIU head coach
Tanya Mahefu. "They were very disciplined from start to finish."

The Huskies (10-12, 4-4) won the doubles point as senior
Adey Osabuohien (Hazel Crest, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) and freshman
Raven Neely (Grosse Point, Mich./Grosse Point South) won their match at No. 1 singles, 6-4, and the Falcons (5-14, 1-6) forfeited the match at No. 3 doubles. Senior
Pauline Chawafambira (Mutare, Zimbabwe) and junior
Evelyn Youel (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) were leading their match at No. 2 doubles, 5-4, when it was ended after Osabouhien and Neely's win.

Osabouhien, Neely and Chawafambira won their matches at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles respectively. Neely's 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Polina Radeva was the Huskie freshman's seventh in a row.

The NIU women's tennis team returns to action Friday, April 28 when the Huskies travel to Muncie, Ind. for the 2017 MAC Women's Tennis Championships. The opponent and time will be announced by the league following the completion of Sunday' matches.
