NIU Women’s Tennis Team Opens Weekend at Akron

Huskies return home to play host to Buffalo Sunday

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University Women's Tennis team looks to build on last week's wins when it travels to Akron, Ohio Friday.

NIU (8-10, 2-2) will play the Zips at 12 p.m. Friday and will play host to Buffalo at the West Tennis Courts, weather permitting, Sunday at 1 p.m. All times listed are Central. If there is inclement weather on Sunday, the match with Buffalo will be moved to the Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford.

"The team is looking forward to the challenge this weekend against two quality teams in Akron and Buffalo," said NIU head coach Tonya Mahefu. "We have had a good week of practice and are looking forward to getting back on the court.

NIU enters Friday's match with Akron with a lot of momentum after earning a pair of wins last week, defeating Eastern Michigan, 5-2, before closing the weekend with a 4-3 victory over Toledo. Adey Osabuohien and Raven Neely swept the Mid-American Conference weekly honors for the second time this season. Osabouhien and Neely won their third MAC Doubles Team of the Week honors this season, while the freshman Neely won her second MAC Singles Player of the Week accolade of her career.
