DEKALB – The NIU baseball team (15-33, 9-11 MAC) dropped game two of their three-game series against Eastern Michigan (20-31, 11-9 MAC) 7-1. Prior to the game, seniors were honored with an on-field ceremony to celebrate their NIU careers.
Similar to game one, the Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead but today it was on a solo home run by Mike Mioduszewski in the first. The Huskies did tie the game at 1-1 on a two-out RBI single from senior
Jason Gasser in the second inning. NIU only recorded three hits on the day as
Brad Wood and
Jacob Dunham got the only other two hits aside from Gasser's RBI single.
"Today was another tough day for us," Head Coach
Mike Kunigonis said. "We need to keep battling and find a way to win tomorrow."
EMU scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning off of senior starter
Joe Hawks with a two out triple and single. Freshman
Blake Walker pitched four innings in relief giving up three runs, two earned on four hits and one walk with a strikeout. Senior
Danny Hyde pitched a scoreless nine inning, inducing a groundball double play after walking a batter.
"We need to be better all-around and need to keep fighting if we want to extend our season past next weekend," Kunigonis said. "We could tell our own destiny and we need to battle starting tomorrow."
The Huskies now sit at 9-11 in Mid-American Conference play with four game to go in their MAC schedule. NIU will honor mothers with a pre-game ceremony prior to tomorrow's game schedule to start at 12:05 p.m. CT and will also have a post-game graduation ceremony for NIU baseball players that a scheduled to earn their degrees.
