NIU Heads West to Meet Omaha, Sacramento State

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's soccer team will travel to Orem, Utah, this weekend for a pair of matches. The Huskies will meet 10th-ranked Omaha on Friday, Sept. 15 at 5 p.m., before facing Sacramento State on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 11:30 a.m.

The Huskies are coming off a weekend split in the NIU adidas Invitational as they defeated Stetson, 2-1, in double overtime before falling to UTRGV, 2-0. Sophomore Logan Hatter (Avon, Ind./Avon) and junior Kevin Rodriguez (Pasadena, Texas/Deer Park) were named to the NIU adidas Invitational All-Tournament Team. Hatter scored the game-winning, overtime goal against Stetson, the first goal of his collegiate career.

Omaha travel to Utah with a perfect 6-0 record after home wins over UC Riverside (1-0) and Bradley (2-1) last weekend. Elvir Ibisevic has scored five goals to lead the Mavericks and rank sixth nationally, Emmanuel Hamzat has four goals and also ranks in the top-20 in the nation in goals scored.

The Mavericks have conceded just three goals this season and have a team goals against average of 0.49, which ranks 18th nationally.

The Huskies and Mavericks have one common opponent this season as Omaha was victorious at UTRGV, 1-0, on Sept. 3.

Sacramento State brings a 2-3 record into the weekend and will meet host Utah Valley on Friday night before playing the Huskies. The Hornets split a pair of matches last weekend, falling to San Diego, 2-0, before rebounding with a 2-1 overtime victory over Loyola Marymount. Trevor Jackson leads Sacramento State with two goals; James Del Curto has played all five matches in goal for the Hornets, posting 14 saves and a .700 save percentage.

This weekend will mark the first all-time meeting for NIU against both Omaha and Sacramento State.

Following this weekend's trip west, the Huskies will return home on Wednesday, Sept. 20, when they host Milwaukee in the annual matchup for the LeWang Trophy. Game time against the Panthers is scheduled for 7 p.m.
