DEKALB – The NIU womens soccer team (3-2-1) will play their final non-conference match this Friday at home against Northern Iowa (6-1). This game will host the Jacoby Trophy as it continues its tour and will be on display at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
The Huskies will return to action for the first time in a week after dropping their match last Friday against Milwaukee 2-0. Northern Iowa enters the game with a 6-1 record with the loss coming in their last match against Montana on Sunday.
Two is the magic number for women's soccer as both of their losses have come by a score of 2-0, with NIU holding the opponents to one or zero goals in every other result. Junior forward
Taylor Sarver (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) leads the way for the Huskies offensively with two goals but NIU has touted a balanced attack with eight players having either a goal or an assist so far this year.
The Panthers have scored 13 goals in seven games led by four-goal scorer Brynell Yount followed by Sarah Brandt and Sydney Hayden with three and two goals respectively. UNI goalkeeper Jami Reichenberger has made 28 saves and allowed only two goals for a .933 save percentage and 0.29 goals against average.
Friday's match will be the Huskies' last non-MAC match of 2017 as they will begin conference play Friday Sept. 22 at Akron. The match against UNI will begin at 6 p.m. CT and will be Club Night as well as the Jacoby Trophy Tour being at the game.
