Huskies Play Complete Game In 3-0 Win Over Green Bay

Ingham, Sarver and Chope score goals, Annala records third shutout of 2017

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The NIU women's soccer team (3-1-1) won their second-straight game with a 3-0 win over Green Bay (0-6) Sunday afternoon.

"Our team gave a great effort today and played a complete team game," Head Coach John Ross said.

The Huskies got goals from Allie Ingham (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove), Taylor Sarver (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) and Kelsey Chope (San Jose, Calif./Leland) with Amy Annala (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) recorded her third shutout of the season making five saves.

The first goal of the game was scored by Ingham in the 15th minute on a shot from about 35 yards out that went over the Green Bay goalkeeper. Sarver's first goal was scored about a minute later in the 16th minute after receiving a through pass from Madison Kaufmann (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) for Kaufmann's first assist and point of her college career and the final NIU goal was scored in the 81st minute by Chope to put the game away.

"This is what we've been preparing our offense to look like during our training sessions," Ross said. "The players recognized areas to attack, they saw space and they executed."

Six different NIU players were involved in the point scoring with the three goal scorers, Kaufmann's assist and assists from Natalia Pena (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) and Natalie Yass (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West). The Huskies also had 20 players get minutes in the game for the most they've had enter a game this season.

Annala and the Huskies' defense help strong during a Green Bay offensive push in the second half as the Phoenix took ten shots, four on goal but none found their way into the net. NIU was also the more physical of the two teams committing 20 fouls to Green Bay's five with Chope receiving the only yellow card of the match.

"Amy made a big save in the second half to keep the score at 2-0," Ross said. "We really had all 11 players helping on defense and if we do that all season, we can be a really strong defensive unit."

The Huskies finished their stretch of three-straight road matches with a record of 2-1 after back-to-back wins at UIC and Green Bay. NIU women's soccer will return home for their next match on Friday when the host Milwaukee at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex at 5 p.m. CT.

"It'll be good for them to settle in with school returning home for a bit now," Ross said. "We didn't really treat anything like a road game, we just wanted to go out and play our best effort."
