DEKALB, Ill. – After a pair of road trips last week, the Northern Illinois University men's basketball team will be back in the NIU Convocation Center on Tuesday night, Jan. 23, as it hosts Bowling Green. Game time against the Falcons is slated for 7 p.m., and will be available on ESPN3.
Tuesday's contest is a "Taco Tuesday" with walking tacos available for $5 or a walking taco and a margarita for $10. Tickets are on sale now through the NIU Athletics Ticket Office in the Convocation Center, by calling 815-753-PACK (7225) or online at NIUHuskies.com. Reserved lower bowl seats are just $10 while general admission is available for $8.
NIU (9-10, 2-4 MAC) is coming off an 82-67 setback at Akron on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 20). The Zips hit 15 triples in the contest and shot 52.7 percent (29-of-55) from the field. Freshman
Gairges Daow (Melbourne, Australia/Victory Rock Academy) scored a career-high 14 points while sophomore
Eugene German (Gary, Ind./21st Century Charter) and junior
Dante Thorpe (Washington, D.C./Triton College) had a team-high 16 points.
The Falcons bring a 12-7 overall record to DeKalb, including a 3-3 mark in Mid-American Conference play. Four players are scoring in double figures for Bowling Green, led by 16.2 points per game from Justin Turner. Demajeo Wiggins adds 14.0 points and a team-high 9.5 rebounds per game, Dylan Frye adds 13.7 points per contest and Rodrick Caldwell chips in 10.9 points per game.
As a team, Bowling Green leads the MAC in rebounding, pulling down 39.0 boards per game, and ranks second in three-point shooting at 37.7 percent.
NIU and Bowling Green are meeting for the second time in two weeks as the Falcons claimed a 66-57 home victory over the Huskies on Jan. 9. Demajeo Wiggins led Bowling Green with 15 points and 15 rebounds in that first meeting,
Eugene German paced the Huskies with 19 points.
NIU will return to the road for its next two games following Tuesday's matchup with Bowling Green. The Huskies will travel to Western Michigan on Saturday, Jan. 27 and Central Michigan on Tuesday, Jan. 30, before hosting Miami on Saturday, Feb. 3.
