Huskies Close First Half of MAC Slate at Central Michigan

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's basketball team finishes the first half of league play on Tuesday night, Jan. 30, as the Huskies visit Central Michigan. Game time against the Chippewas is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and will be available on ESPN3. 

The trip to Mt. Pleasant closes a first half of conference play that sees the Huskies play six of nine games on the road. NIU (10-11, 3-5) is coming off a 79-72 loss at Western Michigan on Saturday (Jan. 27). Both teams shot 50 percent, or better, from the field in Kalamazoo. 

Over its last two games, NIU is shooting 55.8 percent from the field, including 39.4 percent from three-point range. Five different Huskies who have attempted at least 10 shots are shooting at least 50 percent, led by 64.3 percent shooting from sophomore Noah McCarty (Rock Falls, Ill./Sterling Newman). 

Sophomore Eugene German (Gary, Ind./21st Century Charter) scored 21 points last time out against Western Michigan, his 10th 20-plus point game of the season, and continues to lead the Mid-American Conference in scoring at 19.6 points per game. 

Central Michigan brings a 13-8 overall record into Tuesday's matchup, including an 8-3 home record and a 2-6 mark in MAC play. The Chippewas have four players scoring in double figures, led by 15.0 points per game from Shawn Roundtree. Cecil Williams adds 14.3 points per game, David DiLeo chips in 12.6 points per game and Kevin McKay is scoring 10.1 points per contest.

The Chippewas lead the MAC in free throw percentage, shooting 80 percent. Shawn Roundtree is the team leader for CMU at 85.3 percent.

NIU has won four of the last five against Central Michigan, including a sweep of the season series last year. 

The Huskies will return home on Saturday, Feb. 3, as NIU hosts Miami (Ohio).
