NIU Travels To Indiana For Sunday Showdown

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team is back on the road this Sunday, travelling to Indiana for a 1 p.m. matchup against the Hoosiers at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
 
The Huskies are 2-1 on the year after a 70-59 win over the Northern Iowa Panthers on Nov. 11 at the NIU Convocation Center in the consolation round of the Preseason WNIT. Sophomore guard Errin Hodges (Evansville, Ind./Central) led NIU with a career-high 17 points and added six rebounds. Courtney Woods (Brisbane, Australia/St. Margaret's) and Ally May (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) each scored 12 points with May adding a team-high eight rebounds. The Huskies shot a season-high 45.8 percent from the field and outrebounded UNI 44-33.
 
Hodges has been instant offense off the bench for NIU in the first three games of the 2018-19 campaign. She has scored 35 points in the first three games after scoring 24 points in 16 games last season. Hodges is shooting 50 percent from the field and 75 percent at the free-throw line. Her seven rebounds per game is eighth-best in the Mid-American Conference.
 
Woods is among the top-five in the MAC in both scoring and rebounding to start the season. The senior forward is third in rebounding at 9.3 rebounds per game and fifth in scoring at 20 points per game. With 1,580 points, Woods is 15 points away from passing Angela Lockett for eighth place on the NIU career scoring chart.
 
NIU is 2-2 against Indiana in a series that dates back to the 1970-71 season. The Huskies won the last meeting against the Hoosiers 60-59 at Indiana on Dec. 17, 2011. Courtney Shelton's three-pointer with nine seconds remaining, her fifth of the game, was the game-winner. Shelton and Amanda Corral each led NIU with 15 points, with Corral adding 10 rebounds for a double-double.
 
Indiana moved to 4-0 on the season on Wednesday with an 83-64 victory over Florida at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers shot over 50 percent from the field and 60 percent at the three-point line. Brenna Wise led five Indiana players in double-figure scoring with 18 points, adding 10 rebounds. Kym Royster also had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Indiana has held each of its opponents this season under 70 points, and has a +12.5 rebound margin in its first four games. The Hoosiers were 23-14 last season and won the Postseason WNIT.
