Road Trip Continues Wednesday at Green Bay

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's basketball team will conclude a busy stretch of four games in six days on Wednesday night when the Huskies visit Green Bay. Game time against the Phoenix is slated for 7 p.m., and will be available on ESPN+.

This past weekend, the Huskies won the Men Against Breast Cancer Oakland Hoops Challenge. NIU was outstanding offensively in the tournament, averaging 84.3 points per game while shooting 55.1 percent from the field, 50 percent from three-point range and 76.3 percent from the free-throw line.

Senior Levi Bradley (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) and junior Eugene German (Gary, Ind./21st Century Charter) were each named to the Oakland Hoops Challenge All-Tournament Team. Bradley, who was also named MAC West Co-Player of the Week, averaged 20.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game, shooting 67.6 percent from the field and 60 percent from three. Bradley went 13-of-13 from the floor against Oakland (Nov. 25), tying the school-record set by Leon Rodgers against Rockford on December 6, 2000; 13-of-13 is also the best mark in Division I this season.

German meanwhile became the 32nd Huskie all-time, and the second this season along with Bradley, to reach 1,000 career points when he reached the milestone against James Madison (Nov. 24). For the tournament, the Gary, Ind., native averaged 22.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest, while shooting 52.2 percent from the floor and 47.4 percent from three.

In its 92-72 rout of Oakland in the tournament finale, NIU shot 66.1 percent from the field against the Golden Grizzlies, the best mark by a Huskie team in 18 years and the third-best by a Division I school against a Division I opponent this season.

The Phoenix come into Wednesday's contest with a 3-3 overall record and will be playing for the first time since last Tuesday, November 20, when Green Bay fell at Oregon, 83-72. Three players are scoring in double figures for Green Bay, led by Sandy Cohen III at 14.0 points per game and a team-high tying 6.5 rebounds per contest. JayQuan McCloud adds 13.3 points per contest and ShanQua Hemphill is chipping in 12.3 points per game.

This will be the 31st all-time meeting between the Phoenix and Huskies, but just the third since 1997. Green Bay is 12-2 all-time at home against NIU, with the lone Huskie victory coming in 1975. The two schools met last year in the season opener, an 85-65 Huskie victory in DeKalb (Nov. 14, 2017). Bradley led the Huskies with 28 points in that contest while Lacey James (Grand Rapids, Mich./Rider) had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

NIU will return home next Wednesday, December 5, as they welcome UC Davis to the NIU Convocation Center. Tipoff against the Aggies is scheduled for 7 p.m., and tickets are available by calling 815-753-PACK (7225) or visiting NIUHuskies.com/tickets.
