Women's Basketball | November 29

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team opens a stretch of four consecutive road games this weekend at the Lady Griz Classic, hosted by Montana. The Huskies face the host Lady Griz on Saturday at 3 p.m., followed by a matchup against either UC Davis or Nevada on Sunday at 1 p.m.

NIU (3-2) made a season-high 11 three-pointers and turned the ball over just twice in an 81-63 win over North Dakota State at the NIU Convocation Center on Wednesday. The Huskies' two turnovers are the fewest by a team in NCAA Division I in a single game so far this season, and the lowest for NIU in a game since having three against Western Michigan on Feb. 11, 2015. NIU has made 21 three-pointers over the last two games after making just three against Northern Iowa on Nov. 18.

Courtney Woods (Brisbane, Australia/St. Margaret's) led NIU with 25 points on Wednesday, adding six rebounds and four assists. She has scored in double-figures in 31 straight games and now has 27 20-point games in her career. Woods passed Angela Lockett Wednesday for eighth place on the NIU career scoring chart with 1,615 points. Mikayla Voigt (Slinger, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) made a season-high five three-pointers Wednesday on her way to 17 points. She was named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week, fittingly, during NIU's Education Day game Wednesday for her 15-point effort at Indiana on Nov. 25.

NIU will be facing two first-time opponents this weekend in Missoula, Mont. The Huskies have never faced Montana, Nevada, or UC Davis in program history. NIU has played in the state of Montana before, losing a 71-61 game at Montana State during the 2002-03 season. The Lady Griz are 1-2 on the season after a 64-41 loss to South Dakota on Nov. 24. Montana averages 61 points per game and allows 61.7 points per game. Nevada enters the weekend 1-4 after home losses to Colorado and Southern California last week. UC Davis lost at Loyola Marymount 60-53 on Tuesday to move to 2-4 on the season.

The Huskies will play in another weekend tournament next week, taking on Southern Illinois and Western Illinois in the Compass Challenge in Carbondale, Ill. Dec. 7-8.
