BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University Women's Tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to Illinois State at the Bloomington Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.
"We lost a hard fought match to a tough Illinois State team," said NIU head coach
Tanya Mahefu. "There were a couple spots where I felt we could have been closer. It is time to get back to workfor our two home matches against similar opponents."
The Huskies (2-4) picked up victories at No. 4 and 6 singles.
Evelyn Youel (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) earned her victory at No. 4 singles, defeating Illinois State's Ivon Mihaleva, 6-4, 4-6, 13-11.
Brodie Walker (Bristol, England/Bristol Grammar School) had a similar contest at No. 6 singles. After dropping the first set, 2-6, she won the second, 6-1, and the third, 10-8.
The NIU women's tennis team returns to courts Saturday when the Huskies play host to Valparaiso. The match begins at 9 a.m. CT at the Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford.
