NIU Visits Eastern Michigan in Final Regular Season Road Game

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's basketball team will travel to Ypsilanti, Mich., on Saturday, Feb. 24, as the Huskies take on Eastern Michigan in their final road game of the regular season. Game time against the Eagles is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT and will be available on ESPN3.

NIU returns to the road after dropping a 77-68 decision at Ball State on Tuesday night (Feb. 20). Sophomore Eugene German (Gary, Ind./21st Century Charter) scored 25 points in the contest against the Cardinals.

With those 25 points, German has now scored 579 this season, tied for the sixth-most in a single-season in NIU history with Xavier Silas who netted 579 in 2010-11. German's mark is also the most points ever scored by a sophomore in Huskie history. German is averaging 20.7 points per game, best in the MAC and 33rd nationally.

Junior Anastasios Demogerontas (Orland Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) scored 13 points on Tuesday at Ball State, his highest scoring game in conference play. Demogerontas was 5-of-8 from the field against the Cardinals while recording his fifth double-figure scoring game of the season.

Junior Dante Thorpe (Washington, D.C./Triton College) returned to action at Ball State after missed three games due to injury. For the season, Thorpe is NIU's third-leading scorer at 11.5 points per game and ranks sixth in the Mid-American Conference in field goal percentage at 54.6 percent.

The Eagles bring a 17-11 record into Saturday's contest, 8-7 in MAC play. Eastern Michigan has three players scoring in double figures, led by Elijah Minnie's 16.1 points per game. James Thompson IV adds 15.4 points per contest and Paul Jackson is averaging 14.7 points per game.

Eastern Michigan leads the MAC in scoring defense, allowing just 68.0 points per game, and field goal defense, as opponents are shooting just 40.8 percent.

Since the 2011-12 season, NIU and Eastern Michigan have met 17, including four meetings in the MAC Tournament.

NIU will return next week for the final two games of the regular season. The Huskies will host Toledo on Tuesday, Feb. 27 and Ball State on Friday, March 2. Tickets are on sale now through the NIU Athletics Ticket Office in the Convocation Center, by calling 815-753-PACK (7225) or online at NIUHuskies.com.
