NIU Women's Soccer Adds Six on Signing Day

Local Players Top List of 2018 Class

DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's soccer team announced the signing of six new Huskies for 2018 on Thursday, including five local high school products and one Wisconsin native.
In addition to their high school exploits (see below), the newcomers played for three different local club teams: Team Chicago, Rockford Raptors and SC Waukesha. Team Chicago contributes three players to the lineup in Sarah Avery (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central), Jenna Lewey (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) and Julia Lentz (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook), while the Rockford Raptors send Fiona Fulling (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) and Kylee Hermeyer (Dixon, Ill./Dixon) to NIU.
Trudy Quidzinski (Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy) is the sole out-of-state addition to the 2018 roster.
NIU's 2018 class includes one goalkeeper (Lentz), one midfielder (Hermeyer), three defenders (Fulling, Lewey, Avery) and Quidzinski, who has played both midfielder and forward.
Below is a list of the signees with some of their top accomplishments in their careers so far:
Sarah Avery - Defender
Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central HS
Four-time varsity letterwinner… Named All-DuPage Valley Conference and Chicagoland All-State during the 2017 season for head coach Ed Watson…As a part of Team Chicago and Chicago Inter Soccer Clubs, Avery won State Cups during her 2014 and 2016 seasons…Her team also won the MRL Premier 1 Division title during 2013 and 2014...Started on the 1999 ODP State Team in 2015.
Jenna Lewey – Defender
Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore HS
A four-time letterwinner for Sycamore head coach David Lichamer…Earned all-conference honorable mention honors in 2016 and was a first-team all-conference selection in 2017…Named team captain for 2018…Played for Team Chicago for club soccer…Lewey is an Honor Roll student at Sycamore High School.
Trudy Quidzinski – Midfielder/Forward
Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy
Started all four years on varsity and was a two-time team captain…In 2016 and 2017, she was named to the Wisconsin All-State team and also garnered the MVP title…Named all-conference in 2015, 2016 and 2017…Led the Fox River Conference in goals and assists in 2016…Nominated for the 2017 Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year… Started her career at Notre Dame Academy by earning the Rookie of the Year award in 2015…Team was the 2015 Division III State runners-up, 2016 Division II State Semi-Finalist, Conference Champions in 2015, 2016 and 2017, Sectional Champions in 2015 and 2016 as well as the 2017 Regional Champions…As a part of the SC Waukesha club team, won the U19 Wisconsin State Championships…2017 and 2018 Honor Roll student.
Julia Lentz – Goalkeeper
Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook HS
Started on the varsity team for three seasons…Named 2016 and 2017 IHSSCA All-Sectional honoree, Southwest Suburban All-Conference, and All-Area…Selected as Team MVP and Team Captain…Won State Cup as a member of Team Chicago Soccer Club in 2016…Lentz is an AP and honor student at Bolingbrook as well as a National Honor Society inductee.
Fiona Fulling – Defender
Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic HS
Fulling competed on the varsity team for three years for head coach Mark Couper…Earned a spot on the All-Sectional team as a junior…Played for the Rockford Raptors soccer club…Named as a NIC-10 Scholar Athlete three times and has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years.
Kylee Hermeyer – Midfielder
Dixon, Ill./Dixon HS
Started first three seasons for head coach Mahmoud Etemadi on the varsity team…Broke the assist record at Dixon with 24 in her career…Named to the all-conference team as a sophomore and junior…Earned all-sectional honors following her junior season...Played on the Rockford Raptors club soccer team…Club team won the 2016 U19 Illinois State Cup Championship…Member of the High Honor Roll as a freshman, sophomore and junior…Earned academic all-conference accolades as a junior.
