DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team returns to the court when they travel to Milwaukee, Wis. to face Marquette Friday, March 2 before heading to Chicago on Monday, March 5 to take on UIC.
"I think the biggest thing is that we need to compete better." said NIU head coach
Tanya Mahefu. "I think the girls have a chip on their shoulder from last week at DePaul. We know that we have the talent to beat both these teams.
"Last year we had injuries, so we weren't able to play a full team against UIC. We always have a good match against them, and the girls are just looking to getting back to playing better games."
The Huskies (4-5), who suffered a 7-0 loss at DePaul last weekend, go into their next two matches having split their last four. In addition to its setback to the Blue Demons, NIU fell to Illinois State on Feb. 10. The Huskies picked up a pair of wins over Valparaiso and Eastern Illinois at home on Feb. 17.
Evelyn Youel (Crystal Lake, Ill. /Crystal Lake Grammar) looks to improve her individual dual match record to 9-5. The Huskie senior has won three of her last five matches.
Abigail Dekkinga (Allegan, Mich. /Allegan Senior) and
Brodie Walker (Bristol, England/Bristol Grammar), NIU's top performing doubles team, will look to improve their record to 6-2. The duo have won two of their last three matches.
Friday's action begins at 5 p.m. CT, while Monday's will begin at 12 p.m. Fans can follow all the upcoming action via the NIU Women's tennis team's Twitter account, @niuwomenstennis.
