DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team returns home to open Mid-American Conference play versus Bowling Green as part of a two-match homestand at the Boylan Tennis Center on Friday.
"We're excited, we're looking forward to it," said NIU head coach
Tanya Mahefu. "We always have good matches with Bowling Green. The fact that we're undefeated at home gives us a good advantage."
Following their match with the Falcons, the Huskies will close the weekend against Miami on Sunday. Both matches begin at 1 p.m. CT.
NIU (5-9) comes into this weekend's matches with momentum having defeated Florida A&M, 5-2, on the final day of its spring break trip to Florida. It was NIU's first win in five matches and the Huskies' first doubles point win since Feb. 17 versus Eastern Illinois.
"The team learned to be patient and play long points," Mahefu said. "We're young. It's going to be a grind and a battle for our team [this season] so that's something we're learning.
"Doubles is going to be important for us going into that match with BG. We're just going to have to expect to battle if we're going to be successful."
Maria Potsi (Athens Greece/1st Gel Cholargou) is riding a four-match winning streak. The Huskie freshman leveled her record to 6-6 in dual match play, including a 3-3 record at No. 2 singles.
