KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team fell, 5-2, in Mid-American Conference play at Western Michigan Friday afternoon.
NIU (5-12, 0-3) won two singles matches on the day and a doubles match in the loss.
Brodie Walker (Bristol, England/Bristol Grammar School) won her third consecutive match, scoring a 6-3, 4-1 victory over Gabriela Slova. Slova retired in the middle of the second set.
Lara Slikso (Essendon, Australia/St. Columba's College) picked up her first victory in league play. The Huskie freshman posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jeryn Jack. It was Slisko's first win since Mar. 15 against Florida A&M.
NIU was unable to capture the doubles point, losing No. 1 doubles, 6-1 and No. 3 doubles, 6-2. However, the Huskies did win at No. 2 singles where
Maria Potsi and Slisko posted a 6-1 victory.
The NIU women's tennis team returns to the court Sunday, April 1 when the Huskies travel to Toledo. The match begins at 12 p.m. CT. Fans can get updates from the matches this week via Twitter through @niuwomenstennis.
