Eugene German Named to All-MAC Second Team

CLEVELAND – Sophomore Eugene German (Gary, Ind./21st Century Charter) of the Northern Illinois University men's basketball team was named to the all-league second team, announced on Monday by the Mid-American Conference.

The leading scorer in the conference, German has averaged 20.9 points per game this season, which ranks 34th nationally and eighth among underclassmen. The sophomore from Gary, Ind., has scored in double figures in all 31 games this season, including 18 games of 20-or-more points. In addition to his scoring, German is averaging 2.0 three-point field goals per game, 12th in the MAC, and is shooting 77.1 percent from the free-throw line, 13th in the conference.

In league play, German upped his scoring average to 21.6 points per game, which also led the MAC. He also shot 82.1 percent from the foul line to rank fifth in the conference and connected on 2.3 triples per game, tied for sixth in the league.

A Preseason All-MAC West honoree, German has scored 647 points this season, the third-most in a single-season in school history and the most by a Huskie sophomore.

Along with his prolific scoring ability, German has also more than doubled his rebounding from last season, going from 1.4 rebounds per game to 3.9 per game this season, and has also nearly tripled his steals from 10 total as a freshmen to 27 during his sophomore campaign.

This is the second consecutive season in which German has earned conference honors, last season he was named to the MAC's All-Freshman Team. German is the first Huskie to be named to one of the MAC's top-two all-league teams since Xavier Silas earned first team honors in 2010-11.

German and the Huskies will begin play in the MAC Tournament tonight at Kent State. Game time against the Golden Flashes is scheduled for 6 p.m., and will be available on ESPN3.
