CHICAGO – The Northern Illinois University Women's Tennis team fell to UIC, 6-1, at XS Tennis Monday afternoon.
 
The Huskies (4-7) dropped the doubles point as UIC won 6-0, 6-2 and 6-2 at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.
 
"Our doubles play needs to get better moving forward, said NIU head coach Tanya Mahefu. "We will keep working on it in practice."
 
Maria Potsi (Athens Greece/1st Gel Cholargou) scored NIU's lone victory in singles play. The Huskie freshman posted a 7-6 (5-0), 6-1 victory over Melika LeBlanc. Evelyn Youel (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal lake Central) battled her opponent at No. 4 singles, but succumbed to Amelia Guevremont, 7-5, 7-6.
 
"We played well in singles, but we need to do a better job of playing crucial points and games during the latter parts of the match.
 
"The scoreline doesn't reflect how closely the match was contested. The match could have gone either way."
 
The NIU women's tennis team returns to the court Tuesday, March 13 when the Huskies travel to Florida to face Southern Miss. The match begins at 2 p.m. CT.
