TOLEDO, Ohio – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Toledo in Mid-American Conference action at Toledo Sunday afternoon.
 
Brodie Walker (Bristol, England/Bristol Grammar School) extended her winning streak to four as she defeated Claire Aleck in three sets at No. 5 singles. After losing the first set, 3-6, Walker won the second, 6-4 and the third 7-6 winning the tiebreaker 7-4.
 
Evelyn Youel (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) pushed her opponent at No. 4 singles, forcing a third set. After dropping the first set, 3-6, Youel responded with a 6-3 win in the second. However, the Huskie senior dropped the third set, 6-3.
 
NIU (5-13, 0-4) lost the doubles point, dropping No. 1 doubles, 6-2, and No. 3 doubles, 6-0.
 
"I felt we were outplayed in doubles, but did a better job in singles to fight," said NIU head coach Tanya Mahefu. "We are learning from each match and getting better."
 
The NIU women's tennis team returns to action Friday, April 6 when the Huskies travel to Buffalo. The match begins at 12 p.m. CT. Fans can get updates from the matches this week via Twitter through @niuwomenstennis.
