DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team concluded the 2017-18 season with a 6-1 loss to Eastern Michigan at the West Tennis Courts Friday.
"Today was a hard-fought match for the team," said NIU head coach
Tanya Mahefu. "The score doesn't reflect how close the match was. I felt we had a good effort."
Brodie Walker (Bristol, England/Bristol Grammar School) scored NIU's (5-16, 0-7) lone win on the day, beating Andrea Martinovska at No. 3 singles. The Huskie sophomore won in straight sets 7-6, 7-5.
Maria Potsi (Athens, Greece/1st Gel Cholargou) stepped up in class in the Huskies' final match, playing at No. 1 singles. The NIU freshman battled, winning the first set, 6-2, but lost the second and third sets, 6-3, 6-4, respectively.
NIU was unable to capture the doubles point. The Huskies suffered a 7-5 loss at No. 1, and 6-3 setback at No. 2. NIU's No. 3 doubles team of Walker and
Abigail Dekkinga (Allegan, Mich./Allegan Senior) took thier match, 6-4.
