MUNCIE, IN – A day after going toe-to-toe with the host Ball State Cardinals, the Northern Illinois University baseball team was handcuffed to a two-hitter in an 11-0 loss at Ball Diamond Park.
The Huskies mustered only four total baserunners and didn't generate their first hit until a
Jake Dunham (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) single in the seventh inning. NIU suffered its seventh-straight loss on the road as it moved to 15-27 overall and 5-12 in Mid-American Conference.
"We ran into a very good arm (RHP Drey Jameson) today," Huskies' head coach
Mike Kunigonis said. "We didn't play defense the way we know we can and it really hurt us early on this game."
A week after producing the best performance of his young career, freshman RHP
Michael Lasiewicz (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) ran into an offensive barrage where the Cardinals scored five runs (two earned) on seven hits. Lasiewicz went six innings and struck out three batters while walking three.
Ball State tallied all the offense it needed in the first inning with two runs. They added single tallies in the third, fifth and sixth innings, and finished out the scoring with four in the seventh and two in the eighth.
Along with Dunham,
Joe Jumonville (Munster, Ind./Munster) connected for a single and
Ty Jandrowski (Kenosha, Wis./Madison College) reached base on a walk.
"We need to bounce back tomorrow with a better effort and be ready to go," Kunigonis said.
NIU closes out its three-game series Sunday with a 12 noon contest. Junior RHP
William Anderson (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) will take the mound for the Huskies. Â
