NIU Women’s Tennis Team Recognized for Academic Success

DEKALB, Ill. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association recognized the Northern Illinois University women's tennis team for its success in the classroom last season.
 
The Huskies earned ITA All-Academic Team honors, while five Huskies garnered ITA Scholar-Athlete status.
 
Leading the way for NIU were Evelyn Youel (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South), Abigail Dekkinga (Allegan, Mich./Allegan Senior) and Brodie Walker (Bristol, England/Bristol Grammar School), who also picked up Academic All-MAC honors this year. Lara Slisko (Essendon, Australia/St. Columba's College) and Michelle Erasmus (Johannesburg, South Africa/Brescia) also earned ITA Scholar-Athlete status.
 
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
 
To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
