The Rockets opened the scoring in the sixth minute as a ball slipped through from midfield by Sophia Lewis in behind the NIU defense found Hannah Scafaria who slotted a shot past a diving
Megan Donnally (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) to give Toledo an early lead.
Toledo (6-5-1, 2-2 MAC) doubled its advantage in the 15th minute on a goal by Regan Price. Lewis sprayed the ball out into space down the right wing where Price collected it, cut inside and fired a shot in off the crossbar to give the Rockets a 2-0 advantage.
NIU (1-11, 0-4 MAC) cut the Toledo lead in half in the 21st minute as Dominguez converted from the penalty spot. Junior
Abby Gregg (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) was taken down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot, Dominguez then calmly stepped up and finished to bring the Huskies back within a goal.
In the final minute of the first half, Toledo added a third goal as Elbony Rodriguez scored for the Rockets. A cross from Tatiana Woodworth took a deflection inside the six-yard box and fell to Rodriguez who finished from close range to give Toledo a 3-1 lead at halftime.
The Rockets added another goal inside the opening minute of the season half. Alena Sidwell sent a cross in from the right side and Lewis got a step in front of a defender to redirect the ball past Donnally and into the back of the net for a fourth Toledo goal in the 46th minute.
Lewis scored her second goal of the match in the 56th minute. Scafaria fed the ball to Lewis from the left and she beat Donnally for her third goal of the year to give Toledo a 5-1 lead.
Donnally made three saves in goal for the Huskies.
The Huskies will return home on Thursday, Oct. 4, as they host Ball State. Kickoff against the Cardinals is slated for 2 p.m.
