MILWAUKEE – The Northern Illinois University women's team scored a 4-3 victory over Milwaukee at the River Glen Elite Friday.
After dropping the doubles point, the Huskies (1-0) went on to win four of the six singles matches. Milwaukee won the first two of the first three matches of the day, taking Nos. 4 and 6 singles. Freshman Christy Robinson gave the Huskies their first win of the day, defeating Anna Daniel Fuentes in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
NIU scored wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles to clinch the match. Jovana Peric defeated Alex Belle, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) at No. 1 singles, while Maria Potsi rallied from a 4-6 first set loss to beat Mayya Perova 6-2, 7-5. Brodie Walker won in straight sets at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) and No. 3 singles.
The Huskies return to action Saturday when NIU travels to Marquette to face the Golden Eagles. The match begins at 9 a.m. CT.
