MILWAUKEE – The Northern Illinois University women's team suffered a 7-0 setback to Marquette at the Helfaer Tennis & Recreation Center Saturday.
The Huskies (1-1), who posted a solid 4-3 win over Milwaukee on Friday night, were unable to keep pace with the Golden Eagles. However, NIU head coach Tanya Mahefu was pleased with her team's performance on the weekend.
"Overall, I think the team competed really hard this weekend," Mahefu said. "We played with a lot of intensity in both matches. The first match we played a much improved Milwaukee team and had a great win. The second match of the weekend against Marquette, I thought we competed hard even though the score doesn't reflect that."
Brodie Walker turned in NIU's best performance on the day, battling Marquette's Fleur Eggink at No. 2 singles. The Huskie junior fell in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
The Huskies return to action Friday when NIU travels to Madison, Wis. to face Wisconsin. The match begins at 4 p.m. CT.
