Huskies Fall in Opening Game of Homestand to Bowling Green

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's soccer team fell to Bowling Green, 7-0, on Thursday night (Oct. 24) in the first game of a three-game homestand to close the regular season.

Bowling Green (10-5-2, 8-1-0 MAC) opened the scoring in the eighth minute as Mackenzie Reuber sent a low cross in from the right side where Hannah Dolfuss was able to redirect a header back across goal and just over the line to give the Falcons an early goal.

The visitors doubled their advantage in the 17th minute when Maureen Kennedy chipped a ball into the box toward Nikki Cox who fired a shot high into the net to give Bowling Green a 2-0 lead.

Bowling Green took that two-goal edge into halftime and the Falcons added to their lead nine minutes after the interval when Sarah Allen pounced on a loose ball inside the NIU box and finished to give the Falcons a third in the 54th minute.

Just one minute later, Allen added another as she took a short feed from Chelsee Washington on the right side and finished inside the near post to give the Falcons a fourth goal.

Washington scored a goal of her own in the 59th minute when she rose highest to head home a corner from Kennedy.

Bowling Green added a sixth goal through Kennedy White in the 70th minute. White got the ball from Zoe Hudson on the right side and fired a ball across goal and into the top corner.

The Falcons finished the scoring two minutes from time when Lynsey Spotts took a feed from Ruby Linton on the right side of the box and found the back of the net.

NIU (2-12-2, 0-8-1) will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, October 27, when the Huskies welcome Toledo to the NIU Soccer Complex. Kickoff between the Huskies and Rockets is slated for 2 p.m.
