NORMAL, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team wrapped up the fall portion of its schedule at the Redbird Invitational hosted by Illinois State.
 
"This was a tough tournament for us," said NIU head coach Eric Burns. "We had prepared well, but just didn't get the results we were hoping for. We did play much better on day two and brought better energy which was a goal of ours for the weekend."
 
Three Huskies advanced through the winner's bracket throughout the weekend, with Christy Robinson faring the best. Robinson, who won her first round match before falling in the semifinals, finished third in Flight 2 with a 6-3, 2-6 (10-7) over Illinois State's Jelena Karla Vujicic in third-place match.
 
Maria Potsi and Julia Dmitrieva each advanced to the third-place match in their respective flights, but were unable to come away with wins.
 
"We will continue to work on the things we need to address in the off season," Burns said. "Overall it was a positive fall season for our team and hopefully one we can build on."
