DEKALB, Ill. – Just three days after meeting in the regular season finale, the fifth-seeded Northern Illinois University men's soccer team will face fourth-seeded Bowling Green again on Tuesday afternoon, November 12, in the Mid-American Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. Kickoff against the Falcons is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
Bowling Green claimed a 1-0 victory over the Huskies on Saturday night (Nov. 9) to earn the right to host Tuesday's quarterfinal. Vinny Worner scored the lone goal of the contest in the 10th minute to lift the Falcons to the victory.
"We have been out on the training field a couple of times now, trying to clean things up," said NIU head coach
Ryan Swan. "The guys know that this is it. It is a win or go home type of thing, so I think they are ready for the game."
NIU brings a 7-9-1 overall record into Tuesday's quarterfinal. Senior
Jan Maertins (Rheinfelden, Germany/Marquette) and sophomore
Nick Markanich (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) have each scored six goals to lead the Huskies this season. Maertins has tallied 15 points and is one of four Huskies to have reached double figures in points this year.

Alex Welch (Carmarthen, Wales/King's College Madrid) has posted 13 points.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Martin Sanchez (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) has a 7-5-0 record since taking over between the posts for the Huskies. Sanchez has a 1.67 goals against average and a .712 save percentage.
Bowling Green had an 11-6-1 record entering the MAC Tournament and has won four consecutive home games by a cumulative score of 12-1. Chris Sullivan has scored six goals and recorded 21 points to pace the Falcons offensively. Anthony Mwembia has appeared in all 18 matches in goal for Bowling Green, posting a 0.86 goals against average and a .750 save percentage.
Tuesday's game will be the sixth all-time MAC Tournament meeting between the Huskies and Flacons, with NIU holding a 3-2 advantage. The last time the two schools met in the conference tournament came on November 13, 2008, a 2-0 Huskie quarterfinal victory.
NIU is looking for its first win in the MAC Tournament since a 1-0 semifinal victory over West Virginia on November 9, 2012.
The winner of Tuesday night's quarterfinal will advance to face top-seeded Akron on Friday evening, November 15, in the MAC Semifinals at Akron. Kickoff for the semifinal match is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
