DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team continues its seven-game road swing Sunday afternoon with a 1 p.m. game at Colorado State. It will be the first meeting between the Huskies and the Rams.
NIU (1-1) got in the win column for the first time this season last Sunday with a 74-68 overtime win at North Dakota State.
Gabby Nikitinaite's (Orpington, Kent, UK/Coopers School) layup with seven seconds left in the fourth quarter tied the game at 64 and forced overtime, where NIU held the Bison to 1-for-8 from the field. Nikitinaite finished the game with 18 points and a career-high four steals as
Courtney Woods (Brisbane, Australia/St. Margaret's) led the Huskies with 20 points, making 11 of 12 free throw attempts.
The Huskies' frontcourt of
Riley Blackwell (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) and
Abby Woollacott (Rockford, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) also scored in double-figures last Sunday. Blackwell had 13 points and seven rebounds. She is averaging a team-high 8.5 rebounds per game to start the season. Woollacott, in her first start since March 5, 2018, had 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. She also tied a career high with two blocked shots.
Colorado State is 3-1 on the season after a 61-54 loss at Idaho on Wednesday night. The Rams trailed by 14 points heading into the fourth quarter and scored 11 unanswered points to get within three. Idaho outrebounded Colorado State 47-33 and made nine three-pointers to the Rams' four. Makenzie Ellis and Liah Davis each led Colorado State with 12 points. In its first four games, Colorado State has averaged 71.8 points per game and allowed 54.3 points per game. The Huskies are 4-2 all-time against members of the Mountain West Conference with a win over Nevada last season.
Following Sunday's game, the Huskies travel down to Illinois State on Wednesday, Nov. 20 for a 7 p.m. contest.
