DEKALB, Ill. -- The Northern Illinois University men's basketball team will host its third game in four days when the Huskies welcome Longwood to the NIU Convocation Center for the first time on Monday night November 18. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be available on ESPN+ as well as on radio on WLBK in DeKalb.
Monday night is Greek Night as all NIU fraternity and sorority members are encouraged to attend. Free pizza will also be provided for the first 50 students in attendance at Monday's game.
NIU (2-2) comes into Monday's game after recording back-to-back wins over Coppin State (Nov. 15) and Rockford (Nov. 16). Four Huskies scored in double figures in each of those two contests, senior
Eugene German (Gary, Ind./21st Century Charter) led the way with 23 against Coppin State and 21 against Rockford. Against the Regents, German moved into fifth on NIU's all-time scoring list, passing Leon Rodgers (1998-2002); German has 1,658 career points.
Freshman
Tyler Cochran (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook), sophomore
Trendon Hankerson (Novi, Mich./Novi) and junior
Chris Johnson (Chicago, Ill./South Suburban College) all netted career highs last time out against Rockford. Cochran and Hankerson both scored 11 points while Johnson had 10 points.
All 11 players that saw action against Rockford scored at least one point and grabbed at least one rebound, nine of the 11 also recorded at least one assist.
The Lancers of Longwood come to DeKalb with a 4-1 overall record after bettering Randolph College, 78-53, last time out (Nov. 15). Christian Wilson and Leslie Nkereuwem each scored 13 points to lead Longwood, DeShaun Wade added 11 points. Griff Aldrich is in his second season as head coach of the Lancers, Aldrich came to Longwood following a two-year stint as an assistant coach at UMBC.
This will be the first all-time meeting between NIU and Longwood, the Lancers began the reclassification process to join NCAA Division I in 2004-05 and joined the Big South Conference in 2012-13. NIU has only met three other current members of the Big South, holding a 3-2 record in those contests.
After Monday night's contest, the Huskies will head on the road for the next two as they visit Western Illinois on Wednesday, November 20, and SIU Edwardsville on Saturday, November 23.
